You want to remove old wallpaper without hiring a steam stripper and then hang new wallpaper.
You will need
Step by step process
-
Step 1
Cover all furniture, fabrics and floors, and make sure you are wearing protective gloves and eye protection.
-
Step 2
If the wallpaper you are removing is vinyl, peel off the top layer to expose the backing material. Score the surface of the wallpaper with a stripping knife.
-
Step 3
Mix half the contents of the Polycell Wallpaper Stripper in a bucket with 16 pints (9 litres) of cold water.
-
Step 4
Using the brush or sponge, apply the wallpaper stripper solution generously to the wallpaper surface, ensuring an even covering.
-
Step 5
Leave it to soak in for 5-10 minutes and then start stripping off the wallpaper with a broad bladed stripping knife. If necessary, repeat until all the paper is removed.
-
Step 6
If there are any damage or holes underneath your wallpaper, use One Fill Polyfilla to quickly fill holes up to 50mm deep in one application and wait until fully dry (from 15 minutes).
-
Step 7
Apply the Polycell All Purpose Wallpaper Adhesive generously to the wallcovering or wall - as instructed on the wallpaper manufacturer's instructions. Hang the wallpaper as soon as it has been pasted and wipe off any excess on the front surface with a damp sponge.
-
Step 8
If you are hanging a border, cut the border to the required length. Polycell All Purpose Border Adhesive allows you to apply borders onto most surfaces including vinyl wallpapers, gloss and emulsion paint. Apply the Border Adhesive evenly to the border or wall - as instructed on the border manufacturer's instructions.
-
Step 9
Position border on the wall and smooth with a sponge, removing any excess from the front surface with a damp sponge.
