How to strip a door

You want to strip a door or any other large, flat area of paint or varnish.

Step by step process

    Protect all furniture, flooring and surrounding areas, and ensure use of eye protection and gloves.

    Apply Polycell Advanced Paint Stripper in an even, generous coat all over the door.

  3. Step 3

    Step 3

    Leave for 2-4 hours until the paint begins to blister, and then test scrape to see if adequate penetration has taken place. If required, the product can be left for up to 6 hours to maximise penetration through all the paint layers. When ready, remove with a stripping knife or shaving hook.

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

    Should any paint remain, repeat the process. Then use white spirit to clean the door surface of any final residues - this will avoid raising the grain of the wood. The door is now ready to paint or treat as desired.
