The sealant between my kitchen worktop and the wall has become very discoloured and looks unhygienic. I have a double problem: digging out the old sealant and then applying the new seal. I don't feel too confident about tackling either.

Step 1
A good watertight seal is very important here, so you've got to do a thorough job of removing the old material. Paint on Polycell Sealant Remover and leave to dry for 10 -15 minutes). You'll find the old sealant has gone soft and malleable and is easy to remove from the gap.

Step 2
The quick and simple way to create a new seal that will also look neat is to use Polycell Sealant Strip for Kitchens and Bathrooms. It comes on a dispenser roll and while it is flexible enough to fit the contours of your work surface it is also firm enough to make handling easy. The strip can be readily formed into a L-shaped contour that fits snugly along the gap between worktop and wall, so in just a few minutes you can achieve a finish you will be proud of.
