You want to transform your woodchipped walls into smooth surfaces that are ready to paint, but you don't want to go to the hassle of stripping the wallpaper and discovering what lurks beneath is even worse.
You will need
Step by step process
-
Step 1
Cover all furniture and flooring.
-
Step 2
Ensure the wallpaper is clean, dry, well adhered to the wall and in a sound condition. Any loose wallpaper should be removed before applying Smoothover. Touch in any nails or screws with gloss paint to avoid corrosion, fill in any large cracks and seal any stains.
-
Step 3
Stir the Polycell Smoothover for Damaged Walls to a creamy consistency.
-
Step 4
Load the product onto the SmartRoller by immersing it fully in the product. No need to work off any excess, the roller will 'smartly' pick up the right amount of product.
-
Step 5
Gently roll the Smoothover onto the wallpaper, working away from the edges. Reload the roller and repeat, overlapping each section to ensure even coverage to a maximum thickness of 2mm. Each loaded roller should cover about half a square metre.
-
Step 6
After every square metre or so, use the SmartSmoother to get a smooth finish by gently sweeping it in an arc over the surface of the product. Maintain an even pressure to just fill to the texture of the wallpaper to a maximum layer thickness of 2mm. Some bubbles may appear during application, but these should be left, as they will disappear on drying.
-
Step 7
Allow the first coat to dry for three to four hours before applying a second coat to fully cover the woodchip.
Finally, sand to a flat finish.
