You want to be rid of your textured ceiling, but don't want to go to the expense of calling in a plasterer.
You will need
Step by step process
-
Step 1
Cover all furniture and flooring.
-
Step 2
Ensure the ceiling to be treated is clean, dry and free from mould and loose particles. Touch in any nails or screws with gloss paint to avoid corrosion, fill in any large cracks and seal any stains. If the ceiling is really textured (peaks above 4mm), you may wish to scrape off any high peaks first - remember to wear eye protection.
-
Step 3
Stir the Polycell Smoothover for Textured Ceilings to a creamy consistency.
-
Step 4
Load the product onto the SmartRoller by immersing it fully in the product. No need to work off any excess, the roller will 'smartly' pick up the right amount of product.
-
Step 5
Gently roll the Smoothover onto the ceiling, working away from the edges. Reload the roller and repeat, overlapping each section to ensure even coverage. Each loaded roller should cover about half a square metre of ceiling.
-
Step 6
After every square metre or so, use the SmartSmoother to get a smooth finish by gently sweeping it in an arc over the surface of the product. Maintain an even pressure and ensure that the highest texture peaks are covered.
Don't worry about small irregularities or tramlines - these can be easily removed by light sanding once the Smoothover is dry, which takes about 24 hours.
-
Step 7
Apply a second coat if needed - or get ready to paint.
