Problem:
I've recently moved into a new house and many of the walls and ceilings are covered in 1970's style texture but I desperately want smooth walls without the cost of a plasterer. How can I remove or cover the texture to get a smooth finish on my walls ready for painting?
Fix it with:
SmoothOver
Your Textured Walls , SmartSmoother
You can do it:
SmoothOver Your Textured Walls and SmoothOver Your
Textured Ceilings are formulated to easily smooth over textured surfaces
leaving a flat, smooth ready to paint finish.
Before using SmoothOver ensure the surface is clean, sound
and free from loose particles and mould.
Fill large holes and cracks over 4mm deep with an appropriate Polycell
Polyfilla. Allow to dry and sand before applying and touch in
any nails and screw heads with an oil based paint.
When using on textured surfaces, scrape the surface thoroughly to remove the
highest peaks from the texture (use of eye protection is recommended).
Stir the product to a creamy consistency and load the Polycell SmartSmoother tool
with product.
Working in small areas (approx. 0.5m²), away from the woodwork and ceilings, maintain
a firm even pressure and smooth over with the Polycell SmartSmoother. Move
the tool in an upward curve and scrape off excess (maximum layer of thickness
4mm).
Allow the product to dry for at least 24 hours before sanding, if required.
Prime before painting and then apply your favourite Dulux colour
to create your desired look.
Tips:
- Remember when working on large areas prepare for your DIY by covering
carpets and furniture to make the job easier.
- Moisten porous surfaces (e.g. bare plaster or unpainted texture) to
extend working time of product.
- For finishing only, wet the tool blade with a few drops of water, to
aid smoothing of the surface.
