Returning cracked and damaged walls to a smooth surface ready for painting

Problem:
I've just stripped my walls of wallpaper in preparation for decorating but they're a real mess with cracks, holes and gouges all over them. I don't want to pay a plasterer, and am keen to carry out the DIY myself. However, I'm not really confident about plastering.

Fix it with:
SmoothOver Your Damaged Walls , SmartSmoother

You can do it:
Before using SmoothOver ensure the surface is clean, sound and free from loose particles and mould.  If stains are present seal with Polycell Stain Stop and allow to dry.

Fill large holes and cracks over 2mm deep with an appropriate Polycell Polyfilla.

Stir the product to a creamy consistency and load the Polycell SmartSmoother tool with product.  The lightweight tool will help to smooth the product in an easy sweeping action enabling you to smooth over large areas quickly and easily.

Working in small areas (approx. 0.5m²), away from the woodwork and ceilings, maintain a firm even pressure and smooth over with the Polycell SmartSmoother.  Move the tool in an upward curve, scraping off any excess (maximum layer of thickness 2mm).

Allow the product to dry for at least 6 hours before sanding, if required.  Prime before painting and then apply your favourite Dulux colour to create your desired look.

Tips:

  • Remember when working on large areas prepare for your DIY by covering carpets and furniture to make the job easier.

  • Moisten bare plaster to extend working time of the product.

  • For finishing only, wet the tool blade with a few drops of water, to aid smoothing of the surface.
